|Brooding in the library (after By picks up the children)
||[Sep. 6th, 2006|03:20 pm]
I really shouldn't have been so angry at him. I don't know what came over me..and to leave By standing in the hall...He must think I've lost my mind or something. But how could Miles do that...plan to leave and not even tell me...break yet another promise to help Aral with something. I couldn't even calm down after Miles left..and to have Pym walk in on my crying...maybe I have lost it... Ekaterin sighed and stared at the comconsole which was displaying the garden plans for Count Dono's garden. She had been sitting in the library since the children left with By and she still had not actually done anything.
A sound from the hall made her look up. She heard the door open and some mumbled words. She sulked back into her chair when she realized it wasn't Miles who had come home and stared again at the comconsole. She heard footsteps approach the library and then stop. The door opened and Pym poked him head in, nodded in satisfaction of finding her there and sad softly.
"M'lady, Lord Ivan is here to see you."
Ekaterin nodded and Pym retreated out the door. Ekaterin tried to look more chipper but couldn't quite pull it off as Ivan entered.
Ivan hadn't bothered going back home to his flat. Instead, he'd picked up a cab straight from Delia's and told them to get to Vorkosigan House and step on it. He had no word about his mother, or what condition Simon was in now, and couldn't get world to Gregor or Miles. As if I'm not on the need-to-know list, he hissed to himself angrily, It's MY mother, dammit.
Ivan had fairly barged into Vorkosigan House without so much as a warning and when Pym came running, eyes a little wild, he had managed to growl out a "Where is that slow bugger of cousin of mine?"
Pym, however, had merely came a brief, stony, "Come with me, Lord Ivan," and had led to the library. Perplexed, Ivan entered and found Ekaterin sitting by herself looking extremely distraught. His own thoughts secondary for a moment, he rushed up, made a bow, and took Ekaterin's hands in his own. "Ekaterin--" he said, eyes concerned. "You look awful. What happened? Where's Miles?"
"Hello, Ivan. Glad to see you too. Miles...left. Took Roic with him. Didn't even have the nerve to tell me his plans. I caught him as he and Roic were about to leave." She leaned her head on Ivan. "It's just such a god-awful mess. I got so mad at him becuase of it and the fact that he was going to leave Aral again after he promised him all week that he'd help him build this model. I left By standing in the hall...oh what's wrong with me. I've been sitting here for hours staring at this comconsole and not actually doing anything. By took all the kids to the zoo...and I can't help feeling worried."
She looked up at Ivan and it dawned on her that Miles probably hadn't called him to tell him what has happened with Gregor and Laisa. "Gregor and Laisa are in hiding. The children keep asking to see them, to talk to them. It kills me when I have to tell them no that they can't. Miles been encompassed in a case and I have hardly seen him at all. He hasn't talked to you yet has he?"
"WHAT?! HE LEFT?! That damned hyperactive bugger." Ivan sighed, patted Ekaterin awkardly on the shoulder as she leaned against him, and continued in a subdued but still angry voice, "What do you mean, yet? He hasn't talked to me ever. At all. Nothing." Ivan paused a moment, trying to take it all in. Everything Ekaterin just said to him.
"So...Miles left, Roic went with him presumably to be his much-needed muscle mass, and left you, or should I say By with the kids." Ivan groaned and ran a hand through his hair. "That clinches it. Miles never leaves this so...so messy. Something's really got him worried. And I might have a guess as to what it is...he didn't tell you where he was going, did he?"
"No he didn't tell me where he was going. I can pretty much guess though based on our conversation a few days ago and the way he reacted to Gregor the last time they spoke. I thought he had gone mad, talking to him that way. It has something to do with his case though."
She eyed Ivan thoughtfully. "So what brings you around here? I doubt it was to cheer me up or make polite conversation, since you didn't know I was in any type of mood." She remembered the commotion at the door when he had entered the house. "Is everything okay?"
ooc: I'm not sure what, if anything Miles is going to put in the By thread before so I figured vague is the way to go.
"Shit Miles has a case that has something to do with this?" If anything that just made Ivan more worried. It meant that someone was already investigating, and yet the attack had still happened. We're playing defense again he thought frantically. I hate that. "I can't believe he just upped and left without even telling me. Or asking for me help."
Ivan sighed. "I wanted word, really. I figured ImpMil and/or Gregor would call you people before they called me, and I was hoping for some good news. Your comconsole's stuck on busy by the way," he added ruefully, "I've tried it some thousand times since last night." Ivan stuffed his hands in his pockets while looking at Ekaterin. "I dunno about the okay bit. Sure I'm fine but the world's going crazy around me, and I don't know what to do. Talked to Simon..." he added.
OOC: Sounds good. And sorry for the wait! Moving=no internet for a longer than I'd expected.
"You? Now the question would be why was he going to leave without telling me.... I don't like the feel of this and every step I take and the harder I think on this it...it makes me feel queasy."
Ekaterin frowned thoughtfully. "Did you have an interesting talk with Simon?" Then she looked up as it dawned to her what he said about the comconsole. "The comm...well Miles was locked in his office most of the day but the house line and my line shouldn't have been...wait a second." She keyed open the comm channel with a swipe of her hand and it made a beeping noise. "But...I'm the only one home besides Pym and Ma Kosti and she has her own line now this line shouldn't be busy." Another swipe of her hand brought up her private channel and the beeping noise again. She stared at the comm rather puzzled and then her eyes widened. "Ivan...Miles was with me all night last night he wasn't on the comm, and we fell asleep in the garden until the night guard came and got us..."
ooc: It's ok I've been known to not post for awhile as well.
